Mending is a survival skill that is used to repair equipment, such as clothing. There are many different types of clothing in The Long Dark, each providing a different warmth bonus. Clothing also has a large variety of training options relative to most other skills due to the number of types of clothing that can be repaired.
How to repair clothingEdit
Mending is known as one of the easiest skills to train in The Long Dark, as players can increase their skill by repairing any clothing item or bedroll.
To actually repair something, players have to select the "Repair" menu option while viewing the clothing item to repair in the inventory menu. Repair amount and chance to succeed at the repair are listed on the right-hand side of the screen.
The chance of a repair attempt succeeding is calculated directly by adding the benefits of the character's skill and equipment and materials being used in the attempt. Any chance of 100% or greater will be rounded down to 100% and cannot fail. Activating the start button on the bottom right will launch an attempt. Progress bar appears in the top right corner.
Failure occurs by chance and will consume a random amount of time before canceling the progress bar and returning to the start page. Failing to repair an item consumes some condition on the sewing equipment, as well as the material used to attempt the repair.
Players need one of the following items equipment before they can start repairing clothing.
|Cloth||Cloth can acquired by finding it through scavenging, harvesting (clothing, bedrolls, pillows, curtains), or as a by-product of breaking down certain furniture, such as comfy chairs.|
|Leather||Cured leather can be acquired by finding it through scavenging or harvesting from some gloves, shoes, and boots. It is unrelated to the leather obtained from animal hides in the game.|
|Gut||Gut can be acquired by harvesting from animal carcasses.|
|Rabbit pelt||Rabbit pelts can be acquired by harvesting from rabbit carcasses.|
