A wide variety of foods and drinks exist in the game, including prepackaged foods, cookable meat, brewable beverages, and medicinal remedies.

StrategiesEdit

Especially when moving from place to place, it is usually wise to first consume foods that spoil the fastest and have lower energy density, while saving energy-dense products for traveling or for an emergency.

Ruined food generally cannot be eaten. Ruined raw meat can be cooked to restore it to 50% condition. However, if meat transitions to a ruined status during cooking (i.e., condition is very low at 1-3% when cooking begins), it will vanish and will not be available for consumption. This behaviour may be a bug.

If stored outdoors as individual pieces (not in quarters or on carcasses), meat decay (and decay for most non-canned foods) is slowed substantially. This strategy can extend the life span of foods for a few days, and cooking will add 50 percentage points to raw meat's condition.

Another emergency or long-term food option is cat tail stalks. While low in calories, they do not decay and so may also serve as good emergency food caches.
