Don't be afraid if you "break" anything. All edits to a page are stored in the page history, and if something does go wrong, you can simply revert to an older version. More importantly, any errors that do get made will simply be fixed by another contributor. Don't be discouraged if another contributor swoops in and makes adjustments to what you have just edited. It takes time to learn how to edit proficiently, so in the meantime, other contributors might help polish up your work.
FANDOM Wikia has many help pages, however I find them to be difficult to navigate, and they are often sorely lacking in detail. Therefore I've compiled this reference sheet which includes the basics of wiki editing, as well as direct links to the more advanced help…

First off, what's up everyone thanks for all your content on the forums! Been reading them for years but never posted for some reason. BUT THAT SHALL CHANGE TODAY!
Anywho, so I finally did it in my survival game and I was proud so I gotta share! With three bullets I took town a bear (oneshot that foo) and moose ( twoshot the moose) and then was immediately attacked by 2 wolves which I got with my only two arrows, and while one was running it attacked a deer for some reason and killed it. then died... so I got all those skins and can now deck out my duderino.
that's it. the end. thanks for reading.Read more >

The team’s been hard at work on a variety of projects since we released the Rugged Sentinel update in December, and I thought you might like a general development status update.

On 22 November 2017 Hinterland Studio released the third developer diary entry since the full release. This entry included information regarding the upcoming December update (which would become the Rugged Sentinel update).
A note from The Long Dark’s Creative Director, Raphael van Lierop
The team’s hard at work on finalizing the (still un-named) December update and with a bunch of new players joining us thanks to the Steam Autumn Sale, it seems like a good time to preview a few of the treats we have in store.
First off, you’re all waiting to hear more information about the Moose. The model, animation, audio, and core behaviour is all finished. We’ve populated the world with Moose — it’s a pretty rare animal so don’t ex…Read more >
I am proposing the creation of a bot in order to facilitate monotonous edits. For example, at the moment almost every item page has a gap between the top of the page and the quote, which could easily be fixed by a bot. It would also be nice to have a bot should other needs arise. Do people support or oppose this?Read more >
On 23 October 2017 Hinterland Studio released a second diary entry. This entry included information regarding a new internal publishing team, the future of story mode, and an upcomming survival update. Below is the text from the diary entry.
The Road Ahead
It’s been a little while since you heard much from me. August was our launch month, and kept us quite busy with post-launch support (patching, mainly). Most of the team took September off to rest up, apart from a contingent who worked on some platform support tasks, and now most of the team is back at work and it’s time to fill you in on our plans for The Long Dark, moving forward.
While there were a lot of things to celebrate about our 1.0 launch, one thing it showed us was how …Read more >
On 1 September 2017 Hinterland Studio released a "diary" entry entailing information about events prior to, and after the official release of The Long Dark. The diary also included information about what is to be expected in the future development of the game. Here is the diary in its entirety:
The Last Days of The Long Dark, and the Road Ahead
It’s been a month since we launched The Long Dark. As many of you know, our launch was not as smooth as we would have liked. Certainly it wasn’t as smooth as many of you would have liked.
Although I’ve talked about some of these things in post-launch interviews, a bit of an explanation seems in order.
In early July, we encountered a crash in the game that knocked us down. In 4 years of d…Read more >
Hello fellow community members of this wikia.
I am happy to announce that I just adopted this wiki due to reasons from previous staff team being inactive and no longer visiting this wikia, leaving it vulnerable to vandalisers and any other issues unsolved. Thanks to Merrystar for giving me admin and bureaucrat rights.
My role in this wikia is to make sure everything are in check and any issues solved. Issues including, vandalisers, community members arguing each other, several pages need overhaul or subject for deletion and so on. And of course, improve the wikia by making it more cooler as possible.
As you know, I can not handle everything on my own. I am currently looking only one community member willing to become administrator of this wiki…Read more >
A powerful revolver chambered in .357 magnum meant for hunting large game. Not as accurate as a rifle and kicks like a mule, but smaller, lighter and just as powerful. However, the question remains: six shots or just five?
The Hunting Revolver is a weapon that can be found in hunting shacks and such. It is less common than the rifle, is slightly less accurate, and has less range. However, it is 2.4 kilograms lighter, sports the same damage, and can be fired from the hip. It will load rounds one by one or will load all 6 rounds at once if the magazine is empty. It uses .357 magnum rounds which are .01 kilos heavier than .303 rounds used by the rifle, but are otherwise very similar. The ammo can be founds in many of the same locations as …

The following was retrieved from The Long Dark — December Update (v.298), “Timberwolf Mountain” on hinterlandgames.com
We’ve just updated The Long Dark’s Sandbox mode to v.298, which we’re calling “Timberwolf Mountain.” This is the last Sandbox update of 2015, and we’re thrilled to be able to share this with you.
We’ve added a whole new region to the game, called Timberwolf Mountain. It’s the purest wilderness environment in the game to date, a mountainous expanse with almost no “man-made” shelters present. It’s the perfect environment to test the new Rope Climbing gameplay.
Timberwolf Mountain is full of steep cliffs and ravines, and the only routes to the summit require you climb ropes to get to the top. Balan…

IGN has included The Long Dark on its list of 20 Essential Steam Machine Games. We're thrilled to be in such great company!
"It's an uncommonly appealing sandbox survival game, and its thoughtful gameplay embraces nuances like spoiled food, hypothermia, and the need for potable water. The world isn't a nice place away from comfy civilization, and few other games drive this simple fact home so well. While, you know, still being fun."

We've just launched the Linux & SteamOS version of The Long Dark. Release notes below.

We've heard from a handful of our Mac players that upgrading to OSX "El Capitan" may move or delete save files, rendering them unusable in the game.
We're currently investigating, and will post an update in the Technical Issues sub-forum when we know more.
Until then, please be aware that upgrading to El Capitan may affect your save file!
Thank you for your attention.
- The Hinterland Team
We're continuing to investigate this issue. It doesn't seem to be affecting all Mac users who have upgraded to El Capitan. Our testing so far suggests that lost saves *might* be recoverable. We'll post more information soon.

Spooky times ahead! The Long Dark is part of Steam's Halloween sale, and will be 33% off until Nov 2nd.
UPDATE #2: Time-progressing bug fixed. All should be working as expected now! Apologies for breaking the game for a few hours.
UPDATE: Unfortunately, our clever attempt to update the game's Main Menu with a Halloween theme has backfired, and we introduced a bug where time doesn't advance (nor Survival Time). We're working on a fix and will publish it as soon as we can.

Hello readers and contributors,
So it has come to my attention that there is a duplicate wiki for The Long Dark on Wikia. The wiki can be found here (Wiki stats / Local list users).
This duplicate wiki has had no activity what-so-ever since its creation in September 2014. I recommend that this duplicate wiki be closed and the URL to become a redirect to this wiki.
If you support or oppose this decision, or would just like to leave a comment, please reply below with:-
I will contact Wikia support in the upcoming days to request the closure. I have also posted a blog on the duplicate wiki regarding the closure.Read more >
